Elysium Analytics, a Data Visualization Dashboard, faces several issues:
- Outdated design style and user experience
- Lack of a consistent branding style
- OpenSearch and Looker components with different design styles, leading to confusion and lack of unified design
- Outdated branding logo in need of a refresh
Goal
Improve and modernize the design system and user experience for the Elysium Analytics Dashboard by creating a unified brand identity, integrating OpenSearch and Looker components seamlessly, and refreshing the branding logo.
Design Strategy
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand the company's vision, values, and target audience
- Develop a modern and cohesive visual language, including color palette, typography, buttons, and iconography
- Design research to view most recent dashboard design systems best practices
- Seamless Integration of OpenSearch and Looker Components
- Research to understand customization limitations for Looker and OpenSearch
- Develop clear visual hierarchies and navigation
Design Scope
- Develop a unified color palette, blending Looker and OpenSearch components
- Utiliz Roboto typography, a font compatible with both tools
- Establish a shared design foundation, incorporating elements like drop shadows, panels, and form elements
- Design a dashboard framework, featuring side navigation, header, and footer with a style aligned to the foundation's theme
- Develop a dark theme based on the primary light color scheme and styles
- Ensure designs and colors were accessibility-friendly through thorough testing
- Construct a comprehensive dashboard, including a landing page and dedicated section pages, seamlessly integrating OpenSearch and Looker content
